What: As part of its ongoing re-imagination efforts, the CityPlace district has partnered with the City of West Palm Beach, the CRA, and renowned artist Steed Taylor to create a public art installation known as a ‘Road Tattoo.’ The street mural, stretching for more than a mile along Rosemary Avenue from Okeechobee Boulevard to Eleventh Street, will be dedicated with a special ceremony in which names of people who have protected and supported the unique character and well-being of South Florida will be incorporated into the public art piece.

Affectionately titled Genii Loci, Latin for the protective spirits of a place, the Road Tattoo, viewed by the artist as the ‘skin’ of the community, features a stylized combination of local native flora, Celtic knots emphasizing the power of community, and music notations for the Jazz standard ‘Round Midnight as a nod to the historic Sunset Lounge and its unique history. The project was led by Ashley Capps of Gravity and employed 21 engaged local artists, as well as volunteers from Palm Beach Atlantic University, The Police Athletic League of West Palm Beach, and other organizations and community groups to complete the project.
